This topic covers the influence of the hydrophibicity and hydrophilicity of the interface region on the binding interaction between molecules.

 

 

Here lists 10 complexes formed with MCM21, CTF19 and CTF3. Among which, half of them have small interfaces area below 500A and half of them have large interface areas that range from 1000 to 2000A.

In general, a correlation can be found between the interface area and the release of free energy upon complex formation. Formation of large interfaces tends to release more energy, which in other words means higher affinity.
